1947 - The Start of Ground Handling Services in Singapore

1947 - The Start of Ground Handling Services in SingaporeIn 1947, ground handling services were provided by a department of Malayan Airways, which became Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA) in 1967. Five years later, MSA ceased operations and paved the way for two new entities - Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Malaysian Airline System (MAS).

1972 - SATS - A Wholly-Owned Subsidiary of SIA

1972 - SATS - A Wholly-Owned Subsidiary of SIAAs SIA concentrated on its core business of running an airline, the establishment of SATS as a separate, yet wholly-owned subsidiary company evolved naturally. On 15 December 1972, SATS was formally corporatised with 1,673 staff. By the end of the first year, staff numbers rose to 2,000 while gross revenue increased by 25%.

1977 - Opening of the First Air Freight Terminal

1977 - Opening of the First Air Freight TerminalIn 1977, SATS opened its first airfreight terminal at Paya Lebar Airport, capable of handling 160,000 tonnes of cargo a year.

1981 - The Move to Changi Airport

1981 - The Move to Changi AirportSATS moved to Singapore's new Changi Airport after investing S$147 million in a new headquarters building, a new in-flight catering centre, which at that time was the largest single-building in-flight kitchen in the world, and two new airfreight terminals.

1985 - SATS Subsidiaries Formed

1985 - SATS Subsidiaries FormedSATS restructured itself into four companies to better manage demand for its services. SATS became the parent company and subsidiaries were formed out of the four operating divisions: Apron Services, Cargo Services, Passenger Services and Catering.

1989 - Passenger Handling Capacity Raised

1989 - Passenger Handling Capacity RaisedWith the opening of Changi Airport's Terminal 2, SATS added two new airfreight terminals and invested in new passenger handling equipment, raising passenger handling capacity to more than 20 million passengers per year.

1992 - SATS Airport Services Established

1992 - SATS Airport Services EstablishedIn 1992, three companies within SATS - Apron, Cargo and Passenger Services - were merged to form a new company, SATS Airport Services (SAS). This consolidation was designed to improve co-ordination and communication, and strengthen the Group's competitiveness.

1995 to 1996 - Continual Investments in Infrastructure

1995 to 1996 - Continual Investments in InfrastructureThe S$215 million SIA Superhub 1, now known as Airfreight Terminal 5, was officially opened in November 1995 by Mr. Yeo Cheow Tong, Minister for Communication and Information and Arts. By 1996, SATS established an express courier centre capable of handling 40,000 tonnes of cargo a year, the S$172 million In-flight Catering Centre 2 and a S$40 million SATS Maintenance Centre.

2000 - Listing on SGX-ST

2000 - Listing on SGX-STSATS was listed on the SGX mainboard on 12 May 2000.

Year 2000 also marked the opening of the new SATS headquarters and new SATS In-flight Catering Centre 1.

2001 - Sixth Airfreight Terminal commences operations

2001 - Sixth Airfreight Terminal commences operationsThe S$270 million SIA Superhub 2 now known as Airfreight Terminal 6 commenced operations in the first quarter of 2001. It is capable of handling a capacity of 800,000 tonnes of cargo per annum.

SATS owned and operated 6 airfreight terminals with a combined handling capacity of over 2 million tonnes of cargo a year and two in-flight catering centres capable of producing more than 20 million meals a year.

2003 - Launch of CargoNet

2003 - Launch of CargoNetSATS launched a web-based cargo tracking service, CargoNet and upgraded its materials handling systems in Airfreight Terminals 1 to 4 to improve cargo handling efficiency and equipment serviceability.

2005 - Launch of “One With You”

2005 - Launch of "One With You"SATS launched a range of new products, services upgrades as well as the new brand promise of "One with You", further strengthening its commitment to touching lives and building lasting affinity with all customers and stakeholders.

2007 - First to Handle A380

2007 - First to Handle A380SATS became the first ground handling company in the world to handle the new A380 superjumbo when Singapore Airlines launched its A380 inaugural flight from Singapore to Sydney.

2009 - Acquisition of Singapore Food Industries (SFI)

2009 - Acquisition of Singapore Food Industries (SFI)SATS acquired Singapore Food Industries (SFI), one of Singapore's largest integrated food services companies in April 2009. The acquisition of SFI provided immediate scale to SATS' existing food services business and strengthened SATS' food competencies.

2010 - SATS Name Change

2010 - SATS Name ChangeSATS changed its name from Singapore Airport Terminal Services Limited to SATS Ltd. to better reflect the Group's business and focus as it continues to leverage its competencies in gateway services and food solutions to grow in and out of Singapore.

2010 - Opening of Coolport@Changi - Asia's newest perishables handling centre

2010 - Opening of Coolport@Changi - Asia's newest perishables handling centreAsia's newest on-airport perishables handling facility provides end-to-end perishables storage and handling for perishables and temperature-sensitive products.

2010 - Acquisition of TFK Corporation

2010 - Acquisition of TFK CorporationSATS acquired a majority stake in TFK Corporation in December 2010. The acquisition provides SATS with an entry into the Japanese airline catering market, enabling it to strengthen existing relationships with key customers, while increasing its capability to serve its core group of customers at new key locations.

2011 - Launch of New SATS Brand Identity

2011 - Launch of New SATS Brand IdentitySATS launched its new brand identity to mark the start of the company's journey to build a unified, consistent representation across its food and gateway businesses and its expansion globally. The new logo was unveiled on 7 June 2011 by the Minister for Trade and Industry, Lim Hng Kiang, SATS Chairman Edmund Cheng, SATS PCEO Clement Woon and IES' Dy CEO Chua Taik Him.

In conjunction with the brand launch, SATS' corporate website was revamped to reflect the company's focus on providing total solutions to existing and new customer segments in Singapore as well as across its network.

2011 – Won tender to manage and operate the new Marina Bay Cruise Center Singapore

2011 – WonIn December 2011, SATS won the bid to manage and operate the new MBCCS, with Creuers del Port de Barcelona (Creuers), Europe’s leading cruise terminal operator.

Both partners formed a 60:40 joint venture company, SATS-Creuers Cruise Services, with SATS holding the majority stake. The new subsidiary has been granted a 10-year lease to operate, with the option to renew for another five years.

2013 - Won bid to provide catering and hospitality services at the Singapore Sports Hub.

2013 - SATS Won bidIn March 2013, SATS won the bid to provide catering and hospitality services at Singapore Sports Hub, together with its partner, Delaware North Company, one of the largest and most admired privately held hospitality companies in the world. Both partners formed a 70:30 joint venture company, Sports Catering Services, with SATS holding the majority stake. The new subsidiary has been awarded a 21 years contract to provide the catering and hospitality services.
