Meet Siti Zaiton Binte Hassan, Senior Security Officer, who has found her second home in a massive 15,500 square meter building located 20 kilometres away from Changi Airport. As part of SATS Security Services’ Non-Aviation Operations, Siti breaks the mould of a typical security officer.

Siti believes in the power of a warm smile to make a difference.

When we first met Siti, she greeted us with a cheerful “Good Morning!” coupled with a bright smile. Instantly, we questioned our perception of security officers always looking serious while carrying out their duties.

Chuckling, she shared, “Security officers don’t need to look fierce all the time. I want people to see me as approachable and feel comfortable around me.”

Being a security officer with SATS Security Services and getting deployed to her current location is nothing short of a dream come true. Grinning from ear to ear, Siti expressed her gratitude: “I’m blessed to be here. I couldn’t ask for more!”

A day in the life of a security officer

Siti’s security journey spans an impressive 12 years, starting with her deployment at the airport back in 2011. She jumped on the opportunity to transfer to the non-aviation sector in 2015 and has not regretted it since.

Describing her job, Siti explained: “My job is straightforward, but it’s incredibly fulfilling. I keep the place and the people in it safe.”

Her daily routine involves a range of responsibilities that go beyond traditional security duties. She ensures the safety of the entire building by diligently checking closed-circuit television cameras. Throughout the day, she verifies the identification of everyone entering the premises. At the end of her shift, she takes a moment to look around, filled with contentment knowing that it has been a peaceful day.

Building relationships, securing safety

For Siti, trust and confidence are the building blocks of a great working relationship, especially in the security industry.

It took some time for the client’s staff to warm up to Siti as the new face welcoming them in the morning. With time and countless friendly smiles, Siti won them over. During our visit, we witnessed how they had grown fond of Siti. They chatted, laughed, and even enjoyed meals together.

Today, Siti has become more than just a security officer who keeps them safe each day, but also someone they trust with welcoming and attending to their guests and VIPs – a part of her job that she genuinely enjoys due to her love for meeting new people.

We also had the pleasure of meeting one of Siti’s bosses in the client company, and he had a wealth of praises and stories about Siti’s competence, expressing his gratitude to her and SATS Security Services for assigning such a reliable security officer to their team.

Taking this confidence to heart, Siti approaches her work with pride and a strong sense of responsibility. “I take my work seriously because I want to make my company, SATS, and the client company proud.”
