Dangerous Goods

Dangerous Goods Excellence Programme

WFS is committed to being ‘Best-in-class’ in reducing Dangerous Goods (DG) risk to customer airlines

A new set of DG standards has been developed based on IATA DGR as a minimum standard, and going beyond IATA in areas where it is felt that risk could be reduced further.

It contains 55 standards covering Acceptance, Storage, Build-up, Training, DG by Road (ADR) and Emergency Response. Examples of WFS requirements which go beyond IATA are 4-eyes checks of DG build-up, and stickering of held shipments.

The new standards were rolled out in the EMEAA region in April 2022 with the Americas to follow by the end of 2023.

Digitisation

Digitisation is a core focus of the programme, with the introduction of tools such as IATA DG Autochecker, Cargospot Mobile to reduce the risk of DG error between build-up and manifest, and digitising DG related audits and inspections on WFS’ PULSE platform.

Innovations in Lithium detection are being explored including assessment of new approaches to detect undeclared lithium batteries such as new X-ray software.

This programme leverages WFS’ investment in data warehousing and analytics to enhance collection, analysis and reporting of DG data to support customer airlines’ own Safety Management Systems.
